Fairtrade Financing Fellowship (9–12 months)

FairCapital is a mission-driven investment firm based in Pfäffikon SZ with local offices in Cali (Colombia) and Kigali (Rwanda). It provides financing and consulting services to cooperative producers and other actors along the Fairtrade value chain in Latin America. In collaboration with established actors like Fairtrade Max Havelaar, we want to enable high impact enterprises in the southern hemisphere to ultimately reduce poverty worldwide. 

Our passionate team contributes to the evolution of the impact investment sector by developing innovative financing solutions, working closely with our mission-aligned partner institutions. We are currently managing more than 30 high impact investments in Latin America and Africa, several financial consulting mandates and a fintech development project. 

We are looking for a self-starter who would like to grow professionally, while helping us with our development as an innovative impact finance firm. The fellow will mainly work in our Cali office to get familiar with our investment processes and core portfolio. Some remote work for our Swiss headquarters will be required and field visit assignments are possible, mainly in a business development context. The objective of the fellowship is to contribute to the development of new activities and income streams, in collaboration with our existing team, investors and partners. Start date is September 2023, but we are open to discuss flexibility of dates with the most suitable candidate. Requirements to apply: 

  • Master’s degree in business administration, finance or IT management with a strong quantitative background and advanced IT skills
  • 2+ years work experience, preferably with some exposure to fintech 
  • Entrepreneurial spirit, hands on experience, strong business acumen, plus proven interest in impact finance and new technologies
  • Fluency in German, English plus at least basic knowledge of Spanish and French
  • Team-player with the ability to work independently and willingness to travel on a budget

Specific responsibilities include: 

  • Learn to identify and analyze Fairtrade financing opportunities b) Support due diligence and monitoring processes of a high impact investment portfolio
  • Evaluate financing needs of Fairtrade supply chains and contribute to the development of new investment solutions
  • Study the availability and use of data in small-scale farmer organizations and international trading companies
  • Support business development activities with varied tasks related to innovative financing solutions and the use of new technologies
